Calvin Ford, Head Coach for Gervonta Davis, Eager to Confront Vasiliy Lomachenko: “We’re looking forward to that fight”

Like most of the boxing world, head coach Calvin Ford discovered a duel between Gervonta Davis, the multi-sports prodigy he’d trained for more than a decade, and Vasiliy Lomachenko, a boxer. Very interesting match.
Although Davis has gone up and down in weight over the past few years, the Baltimore-born man seems to be keeping his flag at 135 pounds forever. After a round 11 stoppage time win over Mario Barrios in June 2021 at 140 pounds, Davis returned to lightweight to defend his second WBA title against Isaac Cruz.
In what turned out to be an uphill battle back and forth, Davis ultimately won, winning by a unanimous decision. With Davis and Lomachenko’s boxing schedule currently open, Ford can’t wait to see their rivalry come to fruition.

Lomachenko, 33, successfully made his way back up the 135-pound ladder after suffering a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Teofimo Lopez in 2020. Former two-time Olympic gold medalist who won the Olympic gold medal. beat high-ranked candidate Masayoshi Nakatani, stopping him in the ninth round in June 2021, their showdown.
Six months later, Lomachenko continued his restless comeback story. Before a large crowd at Madison Square Garden, the Ukrainian star joked with former player Richard Commey. Lomachenko scored the knockdown in the seventh round and spent the rest of their contest thoroughly analyzing his men for a highly unanimous decision.
For now, Lomachenko hopes that he will have a showdown with unified lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. next. If the newly crowned Australian champion chooses to face someone else, Ford will urge the weight star to look in Davis’ direction. If both teams can eventually reach an agreement, Ford believes their contest will make everyone in the boxing community smile at each other.
“It will be a chess match. It was like a big war, a war that everyone was waiting for.”
