According to Principal Systems Designer, Paul Guirao, the team behind the Callisto Protocol listened to fan feedback and decided to add a new melee weapon to the game. Guirao explains: “We wanted to give players something more powerful than the stun baton.

The result is the all-new Kinetic Hammer. With its design and shape, you can feel the power and weight behind every swing. It has light and heavy melee attacks that hit harder than the Stun Baton, but that’s not all – explains Guirao, “Holding the heavy melee button creates an even stronger attack. than. But mastering the heavy charge mechanism can be tricky… you’ll be the ultimate bad guy once you’ve mastered it. It’s one of our favorite weapons because it destroys everything it touches.” As a bonus, a successfully executed charge attack also creates a strong zone of effect.

However, the thrill of using the Kinetic Hammer is only fully expressed when pitted against worthy opponents. Final Transmission introduces a new type of enemy and boss for players to deal with.

With agile corruptors and brutally powerful double-headed brutes lurking around every corner, not to mention hard-to-kill Security Units, Black Iron Prison has always been a dangerous place. But now, a new enemy stalks its corridors: the Bio Robot, or Biobot as the developers affectionately call it. This fearsome foe is a hybrid between the Biophage and the UJC Security Unit, and a deadly reminder that Black Iron is as dangerous as ever.

“In the main game, the security robots are only seen a few times,” Guirao told me, “With the final chapter, we really drilled into the idea of ​​what happens when the Biophage kicks off. machine takeover.”

Visualizing the Biobot as a grotesque and terrifying mechanical adversary is an iterative process, “We worked closely with the Concept Art team to create an interface that fits the TCP universe. . It takes several iterations to set up the look. “We went to both extremes, too mechanical and too organic,” explains Guirao. More and more iterations the robot resembles existing Security Units and lacks the horror the team is looking for. On the other hand, the more organic versions seem too flimsy and inadequate to distinguish powerful new foes from their Biophage brethren. In the end, the team “found that great spot”.

Affectionate nicknames aside, Biobot is not an enemy to be taken lightly. According to one of the Senior System Designers, “Security Unit Robots are huge, fearsome foes that are truly unbeatable and will only take down if hit in the head with precision.”

Guirao adds, “we are not a strategy based game, so making Biobots a melee unit makes more sense for us. We have a head-to-head fighting style and don’t want to deviate from that.”

Guirao and the team at Striking Distance have watched hundreds of hours of streamers play The Callisto Protocol, “there’s been a lot of feedback on how all of our NPCs feel and that’s what we need.” handle.” To survive, the player needs to employ new tactics to take down the Biobots, however, once the player gets a new melee weapon, they will have a chance to exact revenge on the biomechanical enemies and “Finally got a chance.” to smash them.”

Biobot isn’t the only new enemy you’ll encounter when you return to Black Iron.
