Call for entry: Mkapa . Africa Wildlife Photography Award


After the success of the inaugural contest last year, Africa Wildlife Foundation and The best photography of nature launched the second annual Mkapa . African Wildlife Photo Award. Receive your entries before the June 1, 2022 deadline.

The Mkapa Prize sets itself apart from other wildlife photography competitions through its core commitment to conservation. For example, there are a number of specific entry categories for topics of interest in African conservation.

Furthermore, the Mkapa Awards include: African Conservation Heroes, Coexistence and Conflict, Endangered African Wildlife, Fragile Wilds, and African Wildlife Behavior.

Participants can also enter more traditional wildlife competition categories: Portraits of African Wildlife, Africa’s Backyard Wildlife, Art in the Wild, Digital creative, Mobile, Africa in motion (video) and photographer category 18 years and under.

The winning photos and videos will be announced at the 2022 Mkapa Photo Awards exhibition, scheduled to open on October 27, 2022, at the National Museum of Nairobi, in Kenya. Other global locations are being planned for traveling exhibitions.

In addition, all finalists will be published in a special edition of The best photography of nature magazine devoted to African images and stories from the field.

Entries for this year’s edition are $30 USD for up to 20 images, with a $30,000 prize pool and an African sculpture prize.
