This $20 USB-powered lens hood keeps your lenses frost-free in the cold: Digital Photography Review
As winter approaches in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s only a matter of time before you pick up your camera and head out, only to find your lenses haven’t adjusted to the cold and fog just as you’re trying to shoot. Photograph. Normally, you’re out of luck, but a new product from Hakuba Photo hopes to make foggy lens elements a thing of the past. It’s called the Haida anti-fog belt, and it’s essentially a small USB-powered heater that you can wrap around your lenses to keep the optics nice and durable.
The heating belt uses a hook and loop system to wrap around lenses up to 11cm (4.3”) in diameter. The strap is 5cm (2”) wide, so it can be difficult to use with smaller lenses if you plan to adjust focus manually, but when using with longer lenses you have to slide it back and forth along the barrel to get it is simple enough. in the right position to control what you need on the lens.
Power up the heating belt simply by plugging the included USB-A cable into the battery pack of your choice (battery pack not included). Once plugged in, you can choose between High (55–65 °C), Medium (45–55 °C) and Low (35–45 °C) settings depending on how cold it is outside (and probably your lens size). Hakuba does not say how long the heating belt will stay warm, such as the 10,000mAh battery pack, nor does it say what the power consumption at three settings is, so until the first ones start factory, that’s just a guess. game like what you can expect in terms of performance.
Haida anti-fog belts can be purchased on Amazon and passed Haida’s online store for 20 dollars.
