Cadillac on Friday wrapped up its Celestiq car show, asserting the look of a hand-built flagship sedan of the future.
GM says the concept car is inspired by GM’s 120-year heritage and will continue to be developed towards production.
First introduced last month, the design has stayed GM said, rather than an SUV or crossover. But it has grown considerably since Green car report Okay an early preview of the concept more than two years ago, and its snap-brake and bubble-window interface seems to have fallen a bit in the way of development towards production.
The long, luxurious convertible fastback sedan – GM has yet to show how the trunk opens – drew inspiration from the 1950s brand’s Eldorado B Rouham, as well as dynamic trainers. V-16s before the war. As Cadillac has previously confirmed, the Celestiq will be hand-built, so production numbers are expected to be very small. The company plans to build Celestiq at the Global Engineering Center in Warren, Michigan, although a timeframe has not been announced. This model will include the largest volume of 3D printed components of any GM product. Expect only a few hundred cars a year, and the price of the Celestiq could fall to around $300,000.
The reveal follows an interior snippet revealed last week, when Cadillac displayed four throne-like benches, flat floors and what appeared to be a red leather cabin decorated with metal trim. Screen space — which includes 55 inches — appears to span the entire dashboard, and it includes security technology that allows passengers to view entertainment without disturbing the driver.

That said, it will draw heavily from GM’s existing tech suites. It is set to be built on GM’s Ultium propulsion components, including large format battery cells and modules, GM’s own motor design, and a proprietary battery management system. The Celestiq could also be the first GM vehicle to be equipped with Ultra Cruise autopilot for hands-free driving in most situations.
As Cadillac continues to evolve into an all-electric brand and Celestiq sets the tone at the top of the lineup, the question now becomes: What’s next?
