BYD Atto 3 returns after ADR fix

Delivery of BYD Atto 3 EV is working again later pause for a few weeks related to technical compliance issues.

Overvalued EV outages revolve around non-compliance Australian Design Rules requires the top tether attachment point of the child seat for the rear center seat.

BYD Atto 3 deliveries were first halted by BYD and importer EVDirect on October 21 for what at that time at least a week. On October 28, the companies then extended this sale stop one more week – And after that again after that.

The company promised to announce more details on October 9, but seems to have sent a notice to customers on November 11 with positive news.

“As you may know, we have been in discussions with the local authorities for the past 4 weeks to try to clarify the technical issue regarding the ADR certification of ATTO 3 vehicles,” a customer statement said. from both BYD Australia and EVDirect management.

“As part of that process, we have made the decision to suspend deliveries until we can provide the necessary information to the department to resolve the issue.

“We are pleased to inform our customers that we will be re-starting the ATTO 3 delivery process. This is great news for our customers and we thank you for your patience as we make this happen. perform this procedure.”

The letter mentions several amendments to be made, as follows:

  • The rear center seat can now be used for child seats with rear anchor points available
  • The ISOFIX child seat anchored in the front passenger seat will be removed meaning that a child seat in the front passenger seat of the vehicle cannot be used.

“We recognize that child seat positions do not affect the vast majority of our customers, but safety is and always will be our number one priority, which is why we decided to intends to voluntarily suspend deliveries while this matter is resolved,” the letter read.

“Our Delivery and Customer Care team is currently working to get your vehicle delivered to you as soon as possible and will contact you regarding delivery as soon as possible.”

EVDirect says it currently has 10 “fully operational” delivery centers across the country.

Apparently there was some sort of association between BYD/EVDirect and the department responsible for ensuring that all cars met the ADR regulations. It is important to note that the department has previously approved the vehicle class (MA) for the Atto 3.

We confirmed the status quo with EVDirect this morning and will seek clarity on how the delivered vehicles will be modified to meet the ADR requirements.

Last month Atto 3 did not receive a five-star ANCAP crash rating for Australia – despite doing so in New Zealand and Europe generally follow the same NCAP protocols.

Instead, the BYD Atto 3 sold in Australia has yet to be rated, with ANCAP saying it is currently “working with BYD to finalize the applicability of the rating to Australian-designated models”.

We will contact ANCAP to find out about the applicability of Australia’s safety ratings.
