Browns’ Baker Mayfield on being booed by fans: ‘Don’t really care’

Baker Mayfield will be the first to say he hasn’t played his best football in late times.

Speaking to the media on Monday, he said he was “playing like …” and that he was very disappointed by his performance.

But when it comes to the boos he gets from fans, he says he doesn’t think much of it.

“It’s probably the fans that won’t be quiet while we’re breaching and trying to operate, so don’t really care,” Mayfield said.

WEEK 12 POINTS: Straight | Fight the contagion

Mayfield’s comments come a day after his team narrowly edged out the Lions without a win in a 13-10 win. After the game, Mayfield is not available for questions although usually reporters have the opportunity to speak with the starting midfielder.

Mayfield said that “not a part of it is not responsible” and explained that he was just disappointed by his performance.

“Yes, I was frustrated, among other things. I mean, I’ve never dodged any questions or shied away from that, so not about that,” Mayfield said. “Just being frustrated, removing the emotion and all that from it, just deciding it’s best to wait.”

NFL POWER RANKINGS: Cardinals return to No. 1, Leaders, patriots rise

The 2021 campaign has been a struggle for the Mayfield and Browns at times. The team started the season with a score of 3-1, but then drew 3-3, and are now in last place in the AFC North.

Mayfield has faced injuries, including a tear in his non-throwing shoulder and a knee injury he sustained against the Patriots in Week 10.

As he has gone through injuries, Mayfield has struggled, especially in his past two games. Against the Patriots and Lions, Mayfield completed just 52% of his passes in 249 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.

THAN: What game on Thanksgiving 2021?

In the first eight games of the season, Mayfield completed 66.7% of his passes for 1,917 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions.

“For me, the decision-making was amazing. It was the lack of execution,” Mayfield said of his game on Sunday. “I think there are some plays where I’m not going to make every pitch. Nobody does that, but I’m very, very disappointed with the way I dribble compared with the results, and that’s very, very frustrating. I’ve always been a precise person and that wasn’t the case yesterday. And it was extremely frustrating for me when I felt like I let my teammates down. Preparation week, everything leading up to the game. I feel like I’m in a good position to be able to compete and play at a high level and I’m not, so it’s a very frustrating thing.”

The Mayfield and Browns have a big game coming up Sunday when they face the North’s top Ravens on “Sunday Night Football” in Baltimore.
