Broodmare of the Year Sweet Life dies at 27


Sweet life, champion’s dam Sweet Catomine and many 1st grade winners Life is so sweet passed away at the age of 27, Lane’s End announced January 19.

Kris S.’s #1 bet winner in addition to her symbolic Broodmare of the Year title in 2009, reflects her status as an influential broodmare and producer of two. Breeders’ Cup World Championships race.

Sweet Catomine, of Storm Cat, was crowned 2-year-old dog champion in 2004 after winning Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), Del Mar Debutante Stakes (G1) and Oak Leaf Stakes (G2). At age 3, she won the Santa Anita Oaks (G1) and Santa Ysabel (G3) Stocks.

Three years after marrying Sweet Catomine, Sweet Life is married to a full sister named Life Is Sweet. A hybrid of Pam and Martin Wygod as well as Sweet Catomine, Life Is Sweet will win four classified shares on its way to more than $1.8 million. Her wins include Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (G1) and Santa Margarita Invite (G1). Sweet life is also produced Calimonco a full brother wins the bet with illustrious fillings.

Sweet Life has resided at Lane’s End Farm since 2008 and retired from the broodmare band in 2018. She will be buried at the farm’s cemetery. Sweet Catomine and Life Is Sweet retired from the broodmare band and are now retired people at Lane’s End.
