British fighters in ‘advanced combat training’ with Finland and Sweden | UK News



The RAF has sent four Typhoons and two F-35Bs to Finland and Sweden for joint exercises.

The RAF said it comes just weeks after Finland and Sweden applied to join NATO and is part of an “increasing presence in the region”.

Presence was required by two countries.

Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said: “Finland and Sweden are important defense partners and we welcome their application to join NATO, which will make the alliance stronger as we face it. with a new threat in Europe.

“These deployments highlight our determination to strengthen that partnership and ensure our forces can work together.”

British fighters conducted “advanced combat training” with Finnish F-18 Hornet and Swedish Gripen aircraft, the RAF said.

Swedish Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist said the joint exercises “strengthened our ability to work together to respond to a crisis in our vicinity”.

“This is especially important in today’s challenging security environment.”

The UK signed joint security guarantees with Finland and Sweden in May.

Both are members of the UK-led Joint Expeditionary Force, an alliance of 10 nations.
