Breaking luck returns to Louisiana for Stud Duty

As a racehorse, Breaking Lucky originally raced for Gunpowder Farm and took home the 2015 Prince of Wales Stakes — the second leg of Canada’s Triple Crown — at Fortress Erie and was placed in the Ontario Derby (G3). At the age of 4, he won the Seagram Cup Stakes (G3) at Honeysuckle and placed in four other shares, including a second stake in the Clark Handicap (G1).

At age 5, Gunpowder joined West Point Thoroughbreds, Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, Eric Young, and RA Hill Stable partners and finished twice in 1st place – third in the table Whitney Stakes (G1) and Stephen Foster Handicap (G1). He retired with a 4-6-6 record from 27 starts and made $1,196,376.

Break Lucky comes from an active family. He’s out of the 1st place winner Party Shooting (Sky Classic), who is the beat of War Chant Quake Lake winner who was in turn the dam of the 2019 Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve (G1) Country house (also by Lookin At Lucky) and winner of Gallorette Stakes (G3) Mitchell Street (English Channel). Shooting Party is also the second dam of the Canadian stake winner Gun Association (Association President ).

Lookin At Lucky, who stands at Ashford Stud, is the champion in 2nd and 3rd. As a minor, he won Norfolk Stakes (G1), Del Mar Futurity, and CashCall Futurity (G1) and finished in No. two in the Gray Goose Breeders’ Juvenile Cup (G1). At the age of 3, he won the Preakness Stakes (G1), the Izod Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1), and the Indiana Derby (G2). He is currently among the 15 most active North American studs by career count, the winner in the Northern Hemisphere with 16 males.
