Turned out Rob Gronkowski is feeling bored of not being able to play football at the beginning of this season.
thief Coach Todd Bowles told Tampa Bay Times that Gronkowski has been in contact with the team and that he has had some discussions with the future head of the Hall of Fame about his return to the team in November.
“It was more of a conversation than anything else,” says Bowles. “Usually, when you have to think about playing, you probably don’t want to play. When it was just a discussion, I didn’t think much of it at the time.”
Discussions about Gronkowski’s likely return took place around Thanksgiving. The Buccaneers had their bye week before the break and had two new wins to improve to 5-5. However, many of the Buccaneers’ offensive struggles continued after their bye week, as they have lost three of their last four games.
Gronkowski raised eyebrows on Wednesday when he tweeted “I’m a bit bored” with a neutral face emoji, sparking speculation he’ll end up in a second retirement.
Gronkowski said that two teams actually contacted him after his tweet.
“It’s unbelievable,” Gronkowski told FanDuel TV on Thursday. “I won’t say who, but yes, there are two teams. For me, it’s great that people actually see the tweet.”
Gronkowski also said he was surprised by the reaction to the tweet.
“I barely tweet,” Gronkowski said. “But I’m a bit bored, people see it as when I’m about to return to football. Actually, it was amazing when my agent hit me, two teams hit me. It was crazy. Mine you Friends actually hit me, like, “Dude, are you really going back to football? I don’t see that happening.” I was like, ‘You know I don’t.'”
The 33-year-old has played at a high level during his last two seasons at Tampa Bay, he has since retired to rejoin brave cat when the midfielder signed with the Buccaneers in 2020. Gronkowski had 100 hits from 1,425 yards and 13 touches in 28 regular games of the season.
In six knockout games against the Buccaneers, Gronkowski had 17 contacts from 226 yards and three touchdowns, two of which came in their Super Bowl LV victory over Chief of Kansas City.
“I’m not playing this year,” Gronkowski said. “I can’t tell you what I’m going to do next year or next year. You never know. There may be a small chance.”
