BMW iX and iX3 in Malaysia – full range of electric SUVs, Sport and Impressive, priced at RM319k-RM397k

Let’s start with the more expensive of the two, the iX. We’ve shot the regular xDrive40 before (you can Watch the video review here), but this is our first time getting our hands on Sports. The stronger front and rear bumpers – the front with triangular black plate, the back with the body-colored diffuser – are unique to this car, as are the glossy black bodywork and matching wheels. larger 22-inch Style 1020 two-tone needle.

Inside, the minimalist cabin has been dressed in a dominant black color, a glass Sky Lounge panoramic sunroof, crystal glass switches (including the iDrive dial) and vented trim. The Sport variant retains the mechanics of the xDrive40, with twin electric motors developing a total output of 240 kW (326 PS) and 630 Nm of torque. With this equipment, the X will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 200 km/h. The 76.6 kWh lithium-ion battery provides a range of 425 km on the WLTP cycle.

The IX accepts AC charging up to 11 kW, which means it won’t be able to fully utilize the output of the optional wall box; a full charge takes seven hours and 15 minutes. The car will also support DC fast charging up to 150 kW, which will fill the battery from 10% to 80% in 31 minutes.

Now let’s move on to iX3. Imported from the BMW Brilliance factory in Shenyang, China, it is equipped with a single rear motor that produces 210 kW (286 PS) and 400 Nm, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km. / h for 6.8 seconds before hitting the finish line at 180 km / h.

While the iX’s smaller 73.8 kWh lithium-ion battery, lighter weight and lower capacity allow it to be more efficient, with a range of 453 to 461 km on the WLTP cycle. Despite the slightly smaller capacity, this pack will actually take longer to charge than the iX – about seven and a half hours with 11 kW AC or 32 minutes with a 150 kW DC fast charger.

The IX3 is based on the upgraded X3 and, like its petrol cousins ​​in Malaysia, comes with the M Sport package as standard. The Impressive variant is once again designed differently through Laserlights and larger wheels (20-inch Style 890 M rollers here), along with acoustic glass front windows, gesture control, Harmon Kardon sound system 16 speakers, 464 watts, 360-degree camera system and IconicSounds Electric driving sound.

Otherwise, standard specs are identical to those of the lower-end Inspiring and include keyless entry, push-button start, Vernasca leather seats, Sensatec-wrapped dashboard, brushed aluminum trim, gear shifters. galvanic silver circuitry, adaptive dampers, power-adjustable front seats with heating and driver-side memory, three-zone automatic climate control, Qi wireless charger, panoramic glass sunroof, power assist Parking assist and hands-free power tailgate.

Impressively (pun intended entirely), both cars you see here come with the full Driving Assistant Professional package, which offers automatic emergency braking, evasive steering assist, adaptive cruise control at stop and go, lane centering assist, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. A tire pressure monitoring system and adaptive high beams are also standard.
