BMW i3 eDrive35L headed to the Chinese market next year

BMW car submitted an image to the Ministry of Information and Industry of China (MIIT) for certification of a new electric sedan called i3 eDrive35L, images are making their way into MIIT’s public database and Auto Express. It has been known for a long time that BMW has an electric sedan planned for the Chinese market, which is expected to hit the market next year or in 2023; camo-clad version detected in China and Europe. It is not clear that the sedan will use the i3 name. With the i3 hatch that we know has already left our market and is expected to be discontinued globally next year, chances are the electric 3 Series sedan will carry that name around the world.

That’s the way, though. This i3 will only be available in China, based on the long-wheelbase sedan sold only in that country. Changes are minimal, the defining features are the redesigned kidney-shaped grille between the headlights, a reshaped front bumper with narrower air intakes, deeper side skirts, a devoid of rear bumper. exhaust outlets, blue trim and aerodynamic wheels. According to the filing, those wheels will come in 18-inch sizes on 225/50 tires or an optional 19-inch in 225/45 rubber. Also in the filing, BMW claims the sedan weighs 4,473 pounds and comes with air suspension as standard. Other specifications call this car similar to i4 eDrive40 electric sedan coming to the US next year, namely a 335 hp single electric motor powered by 84 kWh the batteryand top speed limited to 118 miles per hour.

The i3 is expected to enter production at BMW’s joint venture with Chinese automaker Brilliance next year, along with iX3 . electric SUV. Since the model on which this sedan is based is only sold in China, we think it’s a long way to export to other markets. An electric 3 Series on BMW’s new Neue Klasse platform replacing the front-wheel drive CLAR and FAAR architecture is said to be headed to global markets in 2025. Before that, we expect. electric variants of 5 Series and 7 Series on the skeleton CLAR to join the i4 eDrive40 and i4 eDriveM50 here.
