BMW Concept Skytop – 4.4L V8 biturbo engine inspired by Z8 roadster, 503 coupe; Limited production possible

BMW’s latest concept car is the BMW Concept Skytop, which was unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este taking place along Lake Como in Italy.

Combining the latest styling elements with design cues from previous roadsters in the German brand’s history such as the Z8 and 503, the Concept Skytop’s front end recreates a tilted shark-nose front. classic front, combining this with modern touches such as the illuminated kidney grille.

Among the visual features of the Concept Skytop, BMW says, is the long strip that runs from the bonnet to the car’s interior, connecting to an aluminum trim piece on the rear door to “emphasize the dynamic flow.” of the shape of the vehicle.

Inside, the Concept Skytop’s occupant cabin features a leather-wrapped anti-roll bar combined with side spoilers on the car’s B-pillar, while the cabin is inspired by the production version’s interior. 8 lines.

Aside from the styling aspects, there are more similarities with the Z8 from which the Concept Skytop takes inspiration, specifically in terms of powertrain.

While the Z8 uses the same 4.9-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine as on the modern E39 generation M5 super sedan, the Concept Skytop is equipped with “the most powerful V8 engine in BMW’s powertrain portfolio”, by brand. no mention of power-assist drive.

This will be the 4.4-liter S63 twin-turbo V8 gasoline engine, producing 625 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque. M8 contestor slightly higher at 635 PS in M5 CS.

Although this is just a concept in name and design, the Concept Skytop could pave the way for a mass-produced vehicle. “The headlights and taillights are all new. They’re as thin as can be, but we know they’re probably the same.
