BMW and Jeff Koons Create a Limited Edition 8 Series Art Car



BMW car has a long history of Calling on famous and famous artists to customize their cars, often racing. This time, the company has teamed up with American artist Jeff Koons, who has created a special model not for racing cars but for limited production BMW 8 Series Gran Coupes with the name The 8 X Jeff Koons.

According to BMW and Koons, the blue color represents “the vastness of space” and that the 8 Series is a “universally available product”. Dotted line reference a 2010 E92 M3 GT2 art car also made by Koons, comic-style stickers on the sides “represent the vehicle’s power and speed.” The stickers also pair nicely with the vividly clear red and blue leather interior inspired by superheroes. BMW did not identify Koons as a fan of Spider-Man or Superman. BMW has noted that it takes 11 stages to complete the car’s paint job, and will only complete two units per week.

Only 99 units of the Koons 8 Series will be offered worldwide. In the US, it will only be available in the M850i ​​xDrive configuration for $350,995, more than three times the price of the base M850i ​​xDrive. An example that will be on display April 1-4 at Rockefeller Plaza would be Auction by Christie’s. It will certainly bring in more money, but all proceeds will go to the International Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
