Black and white: Two K-Speed Honda Super Cubs

Two custom Honda Super Cub 110s by K-Speed
In fact you can still buy a brand new one Honda Super Cube today, more than six decades after it first came out, pretty cool. But what’s even wilder is that the Super Cub hasn’t been much different from its original appearance. It’s so iconic that calling it a modern classic would be a gross understatement.

The Super Cub’s custom scene is just as lasting — and one outfit that stands on top and shoulders above the rest is Thai K-Speed. They have a knack for tweaking the popular ‘underbone’ enough to make it special, while preserving some of its basic aesthetic. K-Speed’s Cubs could almost be built by Honda itself, in another practice where the brand’s designers are a bit more daring.

K-Speed has produced an incredible amount of Super Cub customs to date. And since their main business is component manufacturing, they also have a laundry list of supplies for this. However, they still try to find a way to create a new spin for it each time.

This latest iteration is mixed with elements from previous K-Speed trims, but it elevates the quality with a custom bodywork that gives Honda an art deco feel. The two cars you see here are both based on the brand new 2022 Super Cub 110i and are identical in paint colors.

Getting the most attention is the Super Cub’s generous new fenders. They’re based on an idea K-Speed’s founder, Eak, had been mulling over for two years, while waiting for the right project to try it out.

According to the report, it took some work to refine the design, but it paid off in the end. The fenders complement the standard lines of the Super Cub perfectly, while also adding bold style to the K-Speed signature. The store first brought them to life by creating molds, then manufacturing the final parts in ABS.

A custom-made set of wheel covers adds visual appeal to the pint-sized scooter. K-Speed’s remake of the Super Cub retains some of the original plastic, but adds neat details, such as the ribbed side panels.

It also has some clever mods available from K-Speed’s own ‘Diablo’ series of parts. Up front, Honda’s OEM LED headlights have been moved to a lower-set Diablo shell. Further down the road, the original speedo sits closer to the driver — also in the plug-and-play Diablo chassis.

The Super Cub’s cockpit is also neatly trimmed. Up top is a new handlebar, wrapped in a custom cover with a small colored fly screen. They are equipped with new handles and classic style micro switches.

Behind is a side-mounted license plate holder, which also houses the LED taillights. Small LED turn signal light on the side of the car. A new seat is placed on top, with revised footrests and a Diablo exhaust that makes things even more luxurious.

K-Speed plans to make 100 of these Super Cubs — 50 in black and 50 in white. The lack of any textures or graphics is intentional, with Eak wanting to emphasize the lines of the bodywork without any distractions.

Despite sharing the same spec sheet, the two versions are completely opposite of each other. The white bike gives a sense of elegance, while the black bike gives a distinctly sad feeling. The branding is limited to an elegant K-Speed logo on the front, with a Super Cub badge on the back.

While you’ll find some used parts here on K-Speed’s online store, you’ll need to order one if you want one of these for your own. While some bits are easy to swap, others require a bit more fetching.

You can’t tell at first glance, but these prototypes are running lowered suspension, modified subframe and extended swingarm. 17” wide serrated tires round out the pack.

If you want to see these two Super Cubs in the flesh, K-Speed is bringing them to the Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show later this year. The standards at the show are high – but somehow, we don’t think these women will have any trouble garnering admiration.

That leaves only one question: black or white?
