It’s an inevitable collision course. Bill Haney, the father of WBC lightweight tennis player Devin Haney, is very much looking forward to.

With both son and former unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez engaged in nonstop trash talk over the past few years, the pair appear to be entangled in an upcoming showdown. However, before both stars continue to share the ring with each other, each fighter has a job to attend.

As for Haney, the 23-year-old Las Vegas resident is set to defend his crown against what he describes as the deadliest boxer of his career in Joseph Diaz. The two will officially end on December 4, next weekend at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. But while Haney continues to complete an arduous training camp, both he and his father adjust in the hope that Lopez will close his deal first.

At Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater in New York City this past Saturday night, Lopez faced off against pretty much the underdog, George Kambosos Jr. Although Lopez predicted a strong knockout win, he suffered the shock of his life. That night, Aussie beat Lopez in the opening round before taking home a close victory.

As Kambosos Jr now begins life as a unified lightweight champion, Bill Haney can’t help but become enraged as mountains of money have been dumped down the drain.

“I think Teo made the money,” Haney said in an interview with ChampSide. “Definitely a stomach ache because everyone wants to see the game against Devin and Teo.”

Although Haney is daydreaming about the money lost, he is now focused on his son and undisputed world champion ambitions. To the delight of the WBC belt holder, Kambosos Jr., shortly after the biggest win of his career, was ready to admit that the Haney fight was the one he craved more than any other. any other.

No wonder those words became music to the ears of both Devin and his father. However, with Diaz already firmly on his way, Bill didn’t want his son to focus on anything other than the former world champion.

“Kambosos did a great job. We look forward to the opportunity but of course we have to handle our business with Jojo Diaz. We couldn’t look past him.”

With Lopez vs. Now that Haney is a thing of the past, Bill is still baffled by what happened this past weekend. As Lopez’s time at the top of the 135-pound mountain is over, Bill Haney offers an explanation for why the fallen star was flung off his tall horse.

“He looks overconfident and out of shape.”
