The Art of the Machine: EXIF Alumni ride bikes at 2022 Malle Mile
Malle London description their annual Malle Mile event as “an unrelenting celebration of the speed, music and artistry of motor culture.” To see how that plays out, Bike EXIF is expected to be on board in just over a week to attend the 2022 edition of the Malle Mile.
Held at the spectacular grounds of Grimsthorpe Castle in the United Kingdom, the event’s four-day biggest draw was its chock-full of mismatched races. The Mile has everything from grass sprints to trail races; Feel free to scramble around the grounds, and even climb the hill. That is fueled by live music, motorcycling movie screenings and a wide range of exhibits and attractions.
Bike EXIF will be hosting ‘The Art of Machine’, a curated collection of the customs that have graced our pages in the past, both from the UK and beyond. To give you a taste, we’ve rounded up five of them below.
Get your ticket here and head down to Grimsthorpe Castle from 21-24 July to see these bikes and more… and enjoy the exciting frenzy that is the Malle Mile.
Bob’C Motorcycles’ bobber Harley-Davidson We only recently discovered Slobodan Cirkovic’s work, but when we did, we were immediately impressed. And since the former Croatia midfielder lives in England, inviting him to the Malle Mile is unquestionable.
Slobodan will bring this gorgeous shaggy guy with him. A bike 14 years old, this one bobber had a 1943 Harley-Davidson WLC engine, running with a shovel head drive and Linkert carburetor.
Everything is attached to a sturdy frame constructed of scratch, with oil stored inside it. But the big win here is that this bobber hairstyle has a slim and fit body. The details are also top-notch; Brookes leather saddle, wood trim on the footrests and loads of brass details. [More]
BMW R100RT from 10′ to 12′ Ben Norton will take a break from his job as a F1 engineer to bring his supercharged super car BMW R100RT to Miles. Not only is it one of the most heavily engineered boxing styles we’ve ever featured, but it’s also Ben’s second release ever.
Setting up a custom turbocharger isn’t the only performance mod here. This BMW has a 1,070cc Siebenrock kit, twin spark plugs, a Setrab oil cooler and a whole bunch of custom engine parts. (It’s not a pity that Ben has friends in the industry with CNC machines.)
The custom-made fuel and ethanol tanks are hidden under the carbon fiber cap, followed by the handcrafted subframe and saddle. The BMW S1000RR forks support the front, with the BMW R nineT swingarm and Ducati Panigale fork doing the job at the rear. Versatile and purposeful, it’s a bike we look forward to seeing and hearing up close. [More]
Foundry . Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport We look forward to seeing Tom Simpson’s metalworking skills up close for miles — and they’re on full display on this slim Moto Guzzi 1100 Sport.
Tom’s Guzzi has a modified Kawasaki H1 fuel tank that fits a die-cast aluminum rear with a custom saddle. It’s an elegant design; The exhaust silencer ends through the lower tail fin, while the redesigned Honda taillights are in the middle.
The bike also has custom-made valve covers and runs through a pair of Dell’Orto PHM40 carbides on modified intakes. The ride height has also been increased, with a range of Biltwell Inc. bars. provides an active upright riding position. And while this Guzzi looks like it’s been painted black, it’s actually a deep blue. [More]
Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 by Rough Crafts Winston Yeh may live in Taiwan half a world away, but his creations are all over the world. And luckily for us, one of his biggest hits is currently parked in London.
Sure, this custom Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 was built 4 years ago — but we’re big Rough handicrafts fans and couldn’t resist the chance to show it off. Winston was one of the first builders to get his hands on the all-new Continental GT, and instantly made the affordable 650 look like a million dollars.
The heavily carved bodywork is made of fiberglass and carbon fiber, shaped on a 3D printed mold. The rear is switched to a monoshock setup, with Öhlins suspension components at both ends. Finished in the signature Rough Crafts matte finish, this GT 650 looks both elegant and furious. [More]
Kingston Custom’s BMW R18 Like the Winston and Continental GT 650, Dirk Oehlerking got his hands on the BMW R18 earlier than most other builders. And he sets extremely high standards.
Drawing on the design of some of his previous classic BMW sedans, Dirk wrapped the R18 in a generous hand-formed crankcase. Beautiful details include deep recesses for the headlights and a kidney grille reminiscent of the BMW 328.
Dirk left most of the car alone underneath, so as not to compromise the R18’s reliability too much. But it is neatly equipped with classic black and white paint, thin saddle and exhaust pipes that turn outwards. Finished with finned wheel covers at the back, this is the kind of art deco masterpiece only available Kingston Custom Distributable. [More]
Other workshops to attend include Baak Motocyclettes with their handsome looks ‘bathtub’ Triumph [above]and Bad Winner with their carbon coating Royal Enfield sprint bike. Newcomers to ASH Motorcycles will be there with Triumph Thruxton Street Trackerand Auto Fabrica will launch a new build.
