Beluga whale straying into Seine ‘died prematurely’ during overland transportation | World News

French authorities say a beluga whale that strayed into France’s Seine river has been buried.

An activity to move the animal, has been stuck since last fridaystarted early this morning.

A team of about 24 experts and other volunteers used cranes and nets to load the whales into a refrigerated truck during the 99-mile (160 km) trip to the northeastern port town of Ouistreham. France.

However, it developed shortness of breath during its passage from the Paris waterways to the coast and had to be amputated.

“Despite an unprecedented rescue operation for the beluga, we are saddened to announce the death of the crustacean,” the Calvados department chief said on Twitter.

It was a risky move from the start, and yes concerned that moving the whale could harm it.

Conservation expert Isabelle Brasseur said “he could have died right now, in the process of lifting”, but she said it was more important to “try”.

Veterinary examinations after it was shipped revealed that the dangerously thin beluga whale had no digestive activity for unknown reasons.

Since the whale strayed into a saltwater basin in Normandy, efforts have been underway to free it, amid concerns about its rapidly declining health.

Whales refuse all food

It was discovered in French waterways on Wednesday after strayed thousands of miles from its home in the Arctic. Underwater noises from ships and boats are said to have confused the whale.

But the beluga, which swam away from boats trying to steer it towards the mouth of the river, between the seaports of Le Havre and Honfleur on Friday, eventually became stranded.

A team of veterinarians hoped to re-stimulate the whale’s digestive system and encourage it to eat. Conservationists have been trying to feed it fish without success since it was first found last week.

However, Whales refuse all food and there are concerns that it may starve to death.

There was hope the animal would survive it reaction to an antibiotic and vitamin used in the last few days and rubs itself on the wall of the padlock to remove the plaque on the back.

In a similar incident last May, a minke whale died after it ran aground in the Thames.
