Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) Disappeared from Google Play, Apple App Store by Government Order
Battlegrounds Mobile India, aka BGMI, has disappeared from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store following government orders. People who have it installed on their devices can still play the game, at least for now. The takedown happened without warning on Thursday night, taking many users by surprise. However, Google has now confirmed that it has received a government order to remove this popular online game. BGMI Launched in India by Krafton as a reaction for the government ban many Chinese apps including Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) which was popular at the time due to security risks. A similar game, Garena Free Fire, is also forbidden in February of this year.
As #BGMI and #BGMIban started trending on Twitter, rumors and speculation about possible reasons for the ban included connections to recent allegations of video games being connected to violent incidentand new interest about data privacy and online security. The new State Mobile, published as a separate app by Krafton, is still available.
According to Reuters, a Google spokesperson confirmed that the removal was by order of the government. Order details are pending.
It really comes as a shock because the growth of e-sports in India is huge.

Developer Krafton claims to have invested more than $100 million in development BGMI and an eSports ecosystem in India over the past few years. The company also recently announced that BGMI has surpass 100 million registered users. At the time, Krafton CEO Changhan Kim said, “India is an important market for Krafton. We are optimistic about domestic opportunities and are committed to creating a strong gaming ecosystem. Our focus is on continuously enhancing the mobile gaming experience for our growing community and investing in the burgeoning startup scene here.”
