Battlefield 2042 gets three major patches this year

Battlefield 2042 not in the best place right now. It’s a game that lacks many of the classic Battlefield features, and in between those gaps? Error. Lots of them. Dice knows this, and they’ve detailed three updates to address some of these issues, all of which will be out later this year.

The first of these updates, called Update #2, will update this Thursday, November 25, and it should offer some interesting tweaks. If one of your squads dies near an object or wall, you’ll be able to bring them up in a flash instead of, well, failing to wake them up. Those sublime gliders have also decimated their health, so they hopefully won’t be marching around the maps like indestructible death machines for much longer. Your days are numbered, friends.

But perhaps the most important fix in Update #2 is in the form of a reduction in weapon spread. Pull the trigger on many guns – mainly rifles – and chances are, most of your bullets will miss the target, especially at long distances, or if you’re moving while shooting. After the patch, it’s generally more useful to stack those photos.

Go to Update #3, which should be out in early December. Dice says this will be their “biggest update since launch” and I believe them. Look at blog post and that’s an exhaustive list of tweaks, not even all that’s planned for the patch. Out of these many additions, I’d like players that get knocked down to see a list of nearby players that can respawn you. Image flickering and stuttering issues have also plagued me, so I’m glad those issues have been resolved.

And let’s not forget those classic Battlefield features like the endgame scoreboard, server browser, and voice chat that went missing in 2042. Dice says they’re “carefully assessing” our wishes to see them back and will come back to us when they have something to show.

I know Battlefield 2042 is a three part pack, but the sheer breadth of this patch is on par with one part of Cyberpunk 2077. It’s a huge roll of improvements and tweaks to everything from Conquest, to Portals, to the Danger Zone. Among the many things that I’m happy to see, it’s the geometry on a better level, which means I won’t get stuck or dragged under the map as often. Goodbye invisible hands, I won’t miss you.

As for that third and final update, Dice has yet to provide any details on it. All we know is they’re looking to get it out before the holiday season, so it’s probably not long after Update #3.

I doubt I’ll be playing Battlefield 2042 much until this final patch drops, but if these promised updates make things more stable, then maybe, just maybe, I’ll collect data back. That is, if I don’t get dragged under the floor in doing so.
