Chasing 128, Afghanistan climbed to 48 because of the loss of two points in 10 rounds. Opening Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbanz fell 23 and 11 respectively as Bangladesh applied pressure in the first half. Mohammad Saifuddin trapped Mohammad Nabi shortly after.

But with Afghanistan needing 66 shots from 42 balls, Ibrahim Zadran (42, 41b, 4×4) and Najibullah Zadran (43, 17b, 1×4, 6×6) delivered successful shots in a daring 69 match. Before that, Mujeeb Ur Rahman (3/16) and Rashid Khan (3/22) had shattered Bangladesh. Mosaddek Hossain unbeaten 48 of 31 balls is the lone silver pad.

Beating first on a slow surface, Bangladesh lost to Mohammad Naim to Mujeeb in the second half, playing clean a carrom ball. Mujeeb then defeated Anamul Haque in the second round against clean pitcher Shakib Al Hasan, playing his 100th T20I, for the third consecutive game. Bangladesh is 3 for 28 behind PowerPlay, with Mujeeb’s first spell reading 3-0-9-3.

Now it’s Rashid’s turn to cause more suffering. He trapped Mushfiqur Rahim in the front with the second ball of his first issue. Although not initially made, the decision was overturned after a review.

Bangladesh reached 50th place out of 10 before losing the 5th match; Rashid brings Afif Hossain to lbw. Mahmudullah made a brief protest in a 36-game partnership with Mosaddek but became Rashid’s third victim of the night when he was arrested in the 16th match.

Mosaddek’s rounds were annoying but ultimately counted for very little.

Brief score: Bangladesh: 127 for 7 out of 20 episodes (Mosaddek Hossain 48 didn’t come out; Mujeeb Ur Rahman 3/16, Rashid Khan 3/22); Afghanistan: 131 for 3 of 18.3 passes (Ibrahim Zadran 42 not out, Najibullah Zadran 43 not coming out; Mosaddek Hossain 1/12, Shakib Al Hasan 1/13)
