Santa Anita . Park the manager issued a $1,000 fine to coach Richard Baltas on March 19 after his trainee Lookin At Sweetie won the race for the first right on January 21 after showing the presence of methocarbamol while working on January 3 to remove it from the vet’s list.
Veterinarians’ listings recognize horses as ineligible for competition for a variety of reasons.
The Look at luck filly, who raced January 21 for George and Martha Schwary Racing, was disqualified, losing the $14,400 first prize. Cayton Kid second on the rope, has been raised to the first.
Lookin At Sweetie finished first in the January 21 race with 2 1/4 lengths, collecting $8.20 to win. The $20,000 lawsuit filed against her by trainer Brittany Vanden Berg has been voided. The filly hasn’t raced since.
Elevated to first place and no longer a teenager, the Cayton Kid was scratched in the Santa Anita fairgrounds March 20.
According to the manager’s minutes published on the California Horse Racing Board’s website, CHRB’s official veterinarian, Tim Grande, informed them the morning after the January 21 race that Lookin At Sweetie was ineligible due to not receiving the necessary blood sample testing, a requirement for horses traveling 365 days or more. Lookin At Sweetie didn’t start October 2020.
Methocarbamol is a commonly used muscle relaxant, and violations in California fall under Penalty C.
