As bird flu rages in the United States, birds across the country are catching the deadly disease, including bald eagles.

At least three bald eagles with avian flu have died, Georgia Department of Natural Resources said on Thursday. Highly pathogenic avian influenza has been detected in more than 25 states, according to United States Department of Agriculture.

In Georgia, 11 wild bird species were site-tested for avian influenza, including bald eagles.

Meanwhile, bald eagles in other states have also contracted the flu.

Last week, an outbreak of bird flu was detected in bald eagles in Maine and Vermont. Bald eagle in Ohio and South Dakota – among other states – have also caught the flu. More than 20 million birds was wiped out in the worst outbreak since 2015, which left more than 50 million birds dead.

Some birds have died from the disease, but most are being culled to prevent the spread of the deadly disease. More than 13 million birds was dealt with in Iowa alone.
