Awareness of AI job loss threat higher among students: Survey


A survey by Digit Research Lab found that awareness of the threat of job loss due to artificial intelligence is higher among students interested in technology than among professionals.

Most of the respondents in the survey believe that their career growth will be hindered if they do not acquire the skills in artificial intelligence (WHO).

The survey was conducted with 3,050 respondents, including young professionals in the technology field and students interested in technology, from March 24 to April 10.

“The survey also revealed that 59% of Indians see AI as a combination of both an opportunity and a threat, with 11% seeing it as a significant threat that could lead to job changes and increased employment.” The perceived threat level is even higher among students, at 40%, compared with working professionals at 36%,” the Digit survey said.

The survey found that 67% of participants were very familiar with general tools like ChatGPT, with 23% reporting moderate familiarity and only 10% reporting no familiarity.

According to the survey, 75% of respondents believe that their career growth will be hindered if they do not learn about AI, machine learning and other related fields.

It also revealed that respondents believe that India education systems should prioritize developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills (54%), establishing a strong foundation in digital literacy (49%), integrating AI-related subjects into curriculum (46%) and encourage interdisciplinary learning to promote adaptability (30 percent) to better prepare students for an AI-inclusive future.
