h / t JoNova; Glencore produces large quantities of metallurgical coal, an essential component of solar panel and wind turbine manufacturing. But the green still wants them quiet and closed.

Australia’s largest coal producer, Glencore, kicked off its first national advertising campaign last month with sweeping footage of glistening solar panels and idyllic views of rotating wind turbines.

At least one climate advocacy group argues that such marketing should be banned in Australia, in a move similar to the outlawed tobacco advertising three decades ago.

Comms Declare, a group of 300 marketing, public relations, advertising and communications professionals, as well as 80 organizations, has pledged not to support companies that contribute to growth in fossil fuel emissions. in Australia, launched its own campaign for a ban on tobacco-style advertising by coal, oil and gas companies in Australia.

“We were founded to recognize that marketing and PR have been famously used for decades to help polluting companies,” said Comms Declare chief executive Belinda Noble. “We want that to stop.”

Large quantities of coal are required to chemically treat high-quality sand or quartz, to produce silicon wafers for solar panels. Silicon production is similar to smelting iron, mixing coal with iron ore in a blast furnace, to separate the oxygen from the ore and produce molten iron.

We are used to people with technical dyslexia, but their refusal to face reality, to accept the importance of coal for the production of renewable energy systems, is one of the more ridiculous manifestations of this willful ignorance.

Without coal companies like Glencore, there would be no green energy.

The Greens should encourage companies like Glencore to produce coal, if they want the green energy revolution not to happen at all.
