Asparagus wrapped in bacon | Mark’s Daily Apple
Asparagus has been used for cooking and medicinal purposes for over 2,000 years. This green is high in vitamin K, which is important for heart health and the regulation of calcium as well as folate, which when combined with vitamins B6 and B12 (as is the case with asparagus) can protect against heart disease and other heart diseases. In addition to the health benefits, asparagus is also a crunchy vegetable that can be used as a delicious appetizer. Even better when adding bacon.
How to make Bacon Wrapped Asparagus
When choosing asparagus, look for thin, firm stalks with dark green tips. Once you have collected a batch of asparagus, tSeason them with oil, pepper, paprika and a pinch of salt.
Next, take a bunch of asparagus and carefully wrap the bacon around, either lengthwise or down. Place the bunch of asparagus on the pan or baking dish with the ends of the bacon facing down so that the bunch of asparagus doesn’t come apart. Repeat with the remaining asparagus until all of them are wrapped.
Pop the asparagus bundles in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until the bacon is nicely golden and the asparagus is cooked to your liking. Serve and enjoy!
Advice:
- Use thinly sliced bacon to cook for about the same amount of time as it takes to roast asparagus. If you only have thick bacon, we recommend pre-baking in the oven for about 10 minutes or so before wrapping the asparagus.
- Thinly sliced asparagus cooks faster than thickly sliced asparagus. Try to use asparagus of an even thickness so that they ripen evenly. If you want crispier, well-prepared asparagus, use thinner asparagus. For softer, less browning asparagus, use a thicker spear.
