Can I bring a service dog into 7-Eleven?

Yes, service dogs with the training necessary to assist you are permitted to enter any 7-11 store by law Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). According to the ADA:

Service animals are defined as dogs that are specifically trained to work or perform tasks for people with disabilities. Examples of such jobs or duties include instructing the blind, alerting the deaf, pulling wheelchairs, warning and protecting people who are having a seizure, reminding mentally ill people to take their prescription medication, and people with nervous tension. Traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) during an anxiety attack, or performing other tasks. Service animals are working animals, not pets. The work or task the dog has been trained to perform must be directly related to the person’s disability. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.”

Staff at 7-11 stores have the right to ask you two questions about your service dog:

  1. whether a service animal is needed because the person has a disability
  2. the type of work or task for which service animals are trained to perform

If your dog is not a trained service dog, do not misunderstand your dog as a service dog. Depending on where you live, misrepresent your dog as a service dog can be fined up to $1000.

Emotional support dogs are not considered service dogs and do not have service dog rights in most states.

Can service dogs in training enter 7-Eleven?
