Aquatica Transport Case for Nikon Z6 II / Z7 II

Aquatica is now shipping housing for Nikon Z7 II and Z6 II. The Mark II models equips the more capable Exspeed 6 processor, increasing both continuous shooting speed and buffer size, improving autofocus, and providing the camera with internal 4K/60p recording.

The AZ6/7 II case is machined from aluminium, hard anodized, and finished with an ultra-durable powder-coat finish. Self-centering and spring-loaded controls allow for quick and easy camera mounting, and there’s support for both Z-mount and F-mount lenses via Nikon’s FTZ adapter — with Separate lens releases for each mount. Camera controls can be accessed using buttons, dials, and levers that are logically arranged around the integrated grip. This includes the AF-ON lever near the right thumbstick and the “+/–” zoom buttons near the left thumbstick.

The case is equipped with Aquatica’s Surveyor system — humidity alarms, vacuum valves and pumps — allowing you to create a vacuum inside the housing and monitor seal integrity, as well as receive audible feedback and pictures if any moisture is detected during the dive. Available from retailers like BackscatterThe housing AZ6/7 II costs $3,200 and is currently available in three different configurations: with dual Nikonos baffles, with dual fiber baffles, or with a single Ikelite baffle.

About the camera

The Nikon Z6/7 II mirrorless camera is one of Nikon’s entry into the ever-growing mirrorless camera market. Essentially mirrorless versions of the Nikon D850 and D750, these cameras follow the trend of most major manufacturers to use mirrorless cameras for their primary professional/consumer offerings. surname. Both bodies have identical control layouts, resulting in Aquatica being able to use one housing for the 2 cameras. The main difference between the two cameras is that the Z6 II uses a 24MP full frame sensor and the Z7 II has a 45MP sensor. Both cameras shoot 4K video although the Z6 produces a sampled 24MP image while the Z7 uses a DX cropping Super35 mode. Cameras with a new Z-mount system to support the new line of Z-mount lenses; however, Nikon created an FTZ mount adapter to allow owners of traditional Nikkor F-Mount lenses with these new cameras.

About housing

As is to be expected with all Aquatica cases, it is CNC machined from 6061 T6 Aluminum with an anodized MIL-A-8625 finish with an extremely sturdy powder coat finish. All control shafts and push buttons are made from T304 stainless steel. This, for all of our housing, will be licked and carried on!

The case supports not only the new Z-mount lenses, but also the FTZ Adapter. The adapter can be removed from the camera without removing the camera from the front case. There’s also a lens release for both the F and Z mounts. As usual, all camera functions can be accessed by the case. Two things to note specific to this housing:

  • The AF-ON controller’s handy placement in the center of the Sub-Selector (easily accessible with the shooter’s right thumb) allows the user to lock exposure or focus and take a photo
  • The “+” and “-” buttons have been moved, to be accessed with the left thumb, next to the playback button. This allows the user to quickly zoom and check if the image is in focus.

All housing controls are spring mounted and self-centering as needed. Users simply insert the mounting tray onto the camera and slide the tray onto the stainless steel guide rail. It couldn’t be simpler!

To protect your expensive electronics from the elements, our Survey Vacuum Systems (valves and pumps) are now included as standard equipment with all AZ6/7 II housings. The vacuum system will provide an extra layer of security as the user can verify that if air doesn’t penetrate the case then water certainly won’t either.
