Apple reportedly said ‘No’ to Meta AI chatbot integration; partner with OpenAI for iOS 18 instead


Apple and Meta recently engaged in discussions about the possibility of integrating Meta’s AI chatbot into iOS 18, as reported of The Wall Street Journal. However, Apple ultimately refused to cooperate, citing disagreements over Meta’s privacy policy. Apple chooses OpenAI’s ChatGPT for iOS 18

At WWDC 2024, Apple announced a collaboration with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into Siri and Apple Intelligence in iOS 18. This move allows users to choose ChatGPT when Apple’s native AI fails to respond to queries. Apple emphasized that additional AI platforms will be supported in the future, underscoring its commitment to providing diverse options for users.

Meta AI Launched in India

Meanwhile, Meta has started rolling out Meta AI across India, making it available on WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and Meta.ai communication. The initiative begins with English language support and the introduction of Meta’s latest general AI model, Llama 3, released earlier this year.

Meta AI aims to assist users with daily decisions and tasks in their social apps. For example, users can leverage Meta AI on WhatsApp to easily find restaurant recommendations, or on Facebook to gather instant insights on posts in their feed. On Instagram, AI can provide creative tips and come up with ideas that match the user’s interests.
