It’s time in the year again. At WWDC 2022, Apple showed off iOS 16 and iPadOS 16″Subsequent versions of the operating system run on Its iPhone and iPad. This update builds on many of the new features Apple introduced in the iOS 15like SharePlay and Focus, and add a greater degree of customization.

Is your iPhone or iPad compatible?
With iOS 16, Apple will discontinue software support for the following devices: iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone SE 2016, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus. Basically, if you have an iPhone 8 (2017) or newer (included Monday- and iPhone SE third generation), you’ll be able to download and run iOS 16 when it’s released this fall. However, that doesn’t mean every feature in the update will be available on your iPhone as some features like Live Text only work with iPhones powered by the A12 Bionic chip or later.

What’s New in iOS 16?

Lock screen overhaul
Apple is completely redesigning the lock screen in iOS 16. Notifications now appear at the bottom of the screen to not clutter up your beautiful lock screen photo. The clock widget cuts behind your photo subject, creating a fantastic depth effect, and you can customize its design, from the typography to the colors — just long press the lock screen to switch to edit mode.
You can add more widgets below the watch, like weather, activity ring, and calendar. At the bottom, where notifications show up, you can also pin certain types of live activity. For example, if you’re watching an NBA game, you can see the score via the notification pinned at the bottom. You can also pin things like Uber rides, workouts, and Now Playing controls, which can expand to full lock screen now to show album art.
There’s a new wallpaper library with tons of designs to choose from, including a live weather lock screen that simulates real-time weather conditions or recommendations to use photos from your own photo library. . Apple will let you set up multiple lock screens, and it’s easy to cycle through them, the same way you can easily switch watch faces by swiping on your Apple Watch.
Improvements are more focused
Your lock screen can also associated with Spotlightwhich means you can set a lock screen for your Work Focus and another lock screen — with a more personal photo — for Focus on the Individual. Swiping to the relevant lock screen will simply activate that Spotlight. iOS 16 also adds Spotlight Filters in apps like Safari, Calendar, Mail, and Messages. Twitter still won’t let you edit tweets, but Apple lets you edit messages in the Messages app once you’ve sent them. You can even “Undo Send” to recall the messages. The new feature is the ability to mark any thread as unread so you can check back for messages later. Pay later with Apple Pay
