As pandemic restrictions increase in the UK, hey, let’s redo 2020 with the return of Between us too. At tonight’s Game Awards, developer Innersloth announced the VR version of their multiplayer stealth role-playing game. Putting the action in first person for sassyrs, it was made by Schell Games, the studio behind James Bond-y VR’s I Expect You To Die series. Check out the announcement trailer below.
“Among us are moving from 2D to first-person experiences, 3D puts the player at the heart of Skeld and retains core mechanics that fans love,” the announcement explains. It won’t be compatible with the non-VR version of Among Us, unsurprisingly; you will only kill other people.
Among us VR will be on SteamVR, PlayStation VR and Meta Quest cybergoggles. What the hell kind of game show plagiarism for kids of the 90s is Meta Qu- oh, yes, yes, it’s Oculus. Other details and release date are secret for now, with more information promised “at a later date”.
The popularity of between us seems to have dropped significantly since, you know, the lockdown has eased, although on Steam it’s at least starting to attract players again. Maybe it’s partly due to the November update added four new player classes, maybe partly because the outside communication is currently frozen, maybe partly because this is still a good game. You know, if you’re going to play among us in VR, I think you’re a coward if you don’t play it with everyone in the same room. One more element is indeed suspicion, paranoia and utter danger.
