Anne-Marie Trevelyan tells male MPs to ‘put your hands in your pocket’, amid claims of sexual misconduct in parliament | Political news
All women in parliament have been subjected to “wandering hands”, one female minister has told male MPs to “put your hand in your pocket”.
International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan made her comments to Sky News, amid new allegations of misconduct and sex in parliament, including that a Tory MP had viewed content porn in the Commons room.
“I think all of us as women in parliament have been faced with inappropriate language, you know, vagrant as my grandmother used to call it. It hasn’t changed,” she said.
“The vast majority of the men I work with are very happy, they are dedicated MPs, they are passionate about the causes they fight for.
“But there’s some, for whom, drinking too much or really a kind of view that somehow being pregnant makes them, you know, God’s gift to women, making them able to suddenly satisfied with yourself.
“It’s never OK, that kind of behavior, disrespect for women.”
She added: “Basically, if you’re a geek, always keep your hands in your pockets and behave like you would if you had your daughter in the room.”
She continued: “I’m comfortable calling out to anyone who thinks their wandering hand is OK. And I’ve done it many times over the years.”
