Bass Racing’s Kentucky Cross Annapolis led the group of five talents in the $200,000 Saranac (G3T) competition on September 3, a 1/16-mile inner-city turf test for sophomores, at Racecourse Saratoga.
Trained by Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher, War front colt scored in the required second place with a high score in the Pilgrim (G2T) competition in October at Belmont Park to end campaign 2 for 2 minors.
Annapolis finished second on his seasonal debut in the Penn Mile (G2T) in June, contested for how incredibly soft it was when Penn National Racecoursebut returned to winning form a month later with a 2/3 length victory at the Manila one-mile tournament in Belmont.
A regal crossbreed foal, won level 2 Song of Unbridled mare My Miss Sophia, finished to finish first National pride for the last time on August 6 in the 3/16-mile Caesars Saratoga Derby Invitational (G1T) — the second leg of the Caesars Turf Triple series.
Pletcher said he was pleased with the effort from Annapolis, who passed twice on the Oklahoma training ground, including the half-mile at: 48.62 on Aug. 26.
“It was a very good race. He didn’t quite finish but it was a good performance,” Pletcher said. “He’s purged well again and seems to be in very good form.
“We wanted to support him a little bit and that’s a better distance than the mile and a half at the Aqueduct. He’s doing well and is ready to run,” Pletcher said.

Hall of Fame coach Shug McGaughey said he was pleased with the final effort from Celestial City, who will add more lightning players.
“I hope he’ll come forward a little bit. I’ve thought he’s been running well the last time,” McGaughey said. “He’s going to run with the flash and I think that’s going to help him. We’re looking forward to running him.”
The Uncle Mo colt graduated in March at Gulfstream Park and subsequently beat the table in a pair of bets, including a runner-up attempt against Fuerteventura in the Jersey Derby.
