Six months before the Kentucky Derby 149, the pari-mutuel of “All Other Colts and Geldings” closed with 4-5 odds in Group 1 of the Kentucky Derby Futures Bet and an impressive first-round winner. Secondary Anejo is second choice 12-1.
Extra Anejo, the 9 1/2 length fast winner of the special maiden weight class in Keeneland on October 13 for Winchell Thoroughbreds owner and Hall of Fame coach Steve Asmussen, may re-appear next in the $400,000 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs on November 26th.
Other horses attracting mild interest from bettors include the Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity (G1) winning horse trained by Todd Pletcher Forte (16-1) and Chad Brown-trained Champagne Stakes winner (G1) Blazing Sevens (20-1), who will meet in the $2 million FanDuel Breeders’ Cup on November 4 presented by Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (G1) in Keeneland, as well as Breeders’ Futurity Runner-up Log in (27-1), who is moderated by Brad Cox.

Total settlement for the KDFW pool November 1-3 – the first of six scheduled bet pools ahead of the 149th run of the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve (GI) on Saturday, May 10. May 6 – was $114,910 ($90,007 in Win team and $24,903 in Exactas).
Inaugurated in 1999, the Kentucky Derby Future Wager has been offered for 25 consecutive years. This marks the earliest combination in betting history.
Other Futures Betting dates are placed from November 24-27 (Group 2); January 20-22 (Group 3); February 10-12 (Group 4); March 10-12 (Group 5); and March 30 to April 1 (Class 6). Kentucky Derby Sire Futures Betting, which launched in 2015 and requires bettors to place bets on the winning male for next year’s Kentucky Derby winner, will be held concurrently with Group 2 on November 24-27. The single Kentucky Oaks Futures bet will coincide with the Kentucky Derby Group 5 Futures Betting on March 10-12.
