Anilao 2023 underwater penalty shootout winner announced


Open Class, Macro/Supermacro, First Class, Kim Kyung ShinDOT Photographer of the Year (Open Class)

Philippine Department of Tourism, 8th organizer Anilao underwater penalty kick, which runs from May 22 to 26, has announced the winners of the prestigious underwater macro photography competition. Kim Kyung Shin was named DOT Photographer of the Year in Open Classroom and Eric Javier was named DOT Photographer of the Year in Compact Classroom. Kyung Shin took first place in the Macro/Supermacro category (Open Class), while Eric took the winning photo in the Fish Portrait (Compact Class) category.

This year there were 153 participants from 14 countries and there were 426 entries across 14 categories of the competition. There were also special awards presented in the Blackwater/Bonfire and Wide Angle categories, which went to Dennis Corpuz and Mark Chang respectively. Diving instruction wasn’t left out either, with Louie Casapao and Roberto Corpuz being named DOT Photographer of the Year Dive Instructor of the Year in the Compact and Extended classes, respectively.

The country’s colorful marine life gets noticed in DOT .’s Anilao underwater shootout

Amateur and professional underwater photographers have beautifully captured Anilao’s rich marine biodiversity in the entries for the 8th Anilao Underwater Photography Competition (AUS) by the Ministry of Tourism. (DOT) held from May 22 to 26. The town’s rich biological treasures, including the colorful sea cucumber carpeted waters.

Tourism Minister Christina Garcia-Frasco said the event strengthens the country’s status as the world’s top diving destination. Through the competition, DOT seeks to develop the country’s diving market with programs that not only promote the country’s marine biodiversity but also actively advocate its protection and conservation. Minister Christina Garcia Frasco said: “The Department is committed to ensuring that the Philippines maintains its position as the world’s leading diving destination through a coordinated, focused and fully supported approach to further develop its diving facilities. our diving products all over the country.”

Bringing together a total of 153 participants from 14 countries—including Australia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey and the United States. This year’s respected jury includes award-winning underwater photographers Aaron Wong, Brook Peterson, Franco Banfi, Rafael Fernandez Caballero and Scott Gutsy Tuason. This year’s edition attracted a total of 426 entries across 14 categories of the competition. The winners were awarded 1.7 million pesos worth of underwater photography equipment from event partners and sponsors AOI, Divers Point Co., Fourth Element, Marelux, Migalabs, Nauticam, Nautilus Dive and Sports Center, Raptor Case, Scubamp, Scuba Studio, Squires Sports, and XDeep.

In the Open Class, Macro/Supermacro category, the winner was Kim Kyung Shin, 1st place; PJ Aristorenas, 2nd place; Yat Kuen Eric Fung, 3rd place. In the Maritime Behavior category, the winner was Dennis Corpuz, 1st place; Patricia Santos, 2nd place; Yat Kuen Eric Fung, 3rd place. In the Molluscs category, the winner was Dennis Corpuz, 1st place; Mark Chang, 2nd place; PJ Aristorenas, 3rd place. In the Fish Portrait category, the winner was Deniz Muzaffer Gökmen, 1st place; Patricia Santos, 2nd place; Mark Chang, 3rd place.

In the Compact, Macro category, the winners were Regie Casia, 1st place; Luzelle Artillero, 2nd place; Teresa Sy Ortin, 3rd place. In the Behavior at Sea category, the winners were Regie Casia, 1st place; Eric Javier, 2nd place; Neil Anthony Torres, 3rd place. In the Molluscs category, the winners were Jayson Cedrick Apostol, 1st place; Ronilo Corpuz, 2nd place, Jose Antonio Caluag, 3rd place. In the Fish Portrait category, the winner was Eric Javier, 1st place; Jayson Cedrick Apostol, 2nd place; Oscar Rey Maranan, 3rd place.

Special prizes were awarded to Dennis Corpuz in the Blackwater/Bonfire category and Mark Chang in the Wide Angle category. Eric Javier was awarded DOT Photographer of the Year for the Compact class while Kim Kyung Shin won the DOT Photographer of the Year award for the Open class. Meanwhile, Louie Casapao and Roberto Corpuz were named DOT Diving Instructor Photographer of the Year for the Compact and Open categories, respectively.

Anilao underwater shooting has been organized by DOT since 2013, in line with the identification of scuba diving as a priority tourism product in the National Tourism Development Plan (NTDP).

The 8th Anilao Underwater Gunfight was held in partnership with Mabini Tourism, DOT Region 4 A Calabarzon #DiscoverCalabarzon, Solitude Acacia Resort, Aiyanar Beach and Dive Resort, and Lakan. The event was also supported by Underwater 360 and Dive Marketing Media.
