Angela Lansbury, a popular and beloved stage, film and television star, will be honored this year with a special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement.
Lansbury, 96, who has won five competitive Tony Awards, will receive the lifetime achievement award on June 12, when this year’s ceremony will take place at Radio City Music Hall and air on CBS.
Lansbury made her Broadway debut in 1957, in a farce called “Hotel Paradiso,” and in 1964, she starred in her first Broadway musical, “Anyone Can Be.” Whistle”, a flop that is remembered mainly because the musician was Stephen Sondheim.
She was nominated for an Academy Award three times, most notably for “The Manchurian Candidate” in 1962, when she landed her breakout role on Broadway, playing the free-spirited character in “Mame” that year. 1966. She won her first Tony Award for that performance.

Lansbury has also had an extensive career in film – she memorably voiced Mrs. Potts in “Beauty and the Beast” – and on television, where she was the longtime host of the show. “Murder, She Wrote.”
The Tony Awards will begin June 12 at 7 p.m. ET ET with an hour-long segment streamed on Paramount+, hosted by Darren Criss and Julianne Hough, followed by a three-hour segment streaming airs on CBS hosted by Ariana DeBose at 8 p.m.
