Andy Dominguez scores UD goal against Marvin Solano
By: Sean Crose
Andy Dominguez and Marvin Solano fell in an eight-round junior bantamweight match scheduled for Tuesday. Their fight is the main event of the Boxing Insider’s Holiday Fight Night card at Manhattan’s Sony Arena on Broadway. 8-0 Dominguez managed to get into his own net straight away in the opening half. On the other hand, Solano managed to put his height advantage to good use by keeping Dominguez at bay. The boxers kept the pace fast in the second round, launching dangerous shots. Dominguez was able to kick Solano, but Solano organized well.
The action slows down a bit in season three. Dominguez still tried to get inside, but to no avail. Solano did a great job keeping Dominguez at bay in the fourth round thanks to his straight punches and good serve. The fifth saw each man throw and land well. However, Dominguez was in the uncomfortable position of not being able to close his men with his quick and powerful strikes.
With that in mind, Dominguez was able to land and land well in the sixth round, although Solano appeared uninjured. The seventh chapter proves to be a brutal one. Solano slipped, but it was the trade-off with punches that made the round tiring for the two boxers. In the final three minutes of the game, Solano lost a point because he tripped over the tarp as he moved in front of Dominguez. However, he fought and landed well.
On the other hand, Dominguez continued to move forward. Solano stumbled on the carpet again, but got up and continued to trade with his opponent until the last bell. The judges ultimately ruled in Dominguez’s favor with scores of 78-73, 76-75 and 78-73.
