Amazon Web Services, Amazon’s cloud computing unit, was shut down on Tuesday, leaving thousands of users unable to access large portions of the Internet, including a wide range of applications.
The outage continued to cause load failures or slow access, which began around 11 a.m. ET and appeared to be concentrated largely along the East Coast, according to the company.
“We’re seeing the impact on many [Amazon Web Services] API [application programming interfaces] in the US-EAST-1 Region, “Amazon speak in a post about an hour after the issues were first reported, adding that the root cause had been identified and the company was “actively working on a fix.”
There are some signs of recovery, the update reads.
There is no estimated time to full recovery at this time.
AWS is a cloud computing service that allows companies to rent compute, storage, and networking, which is why outages have resulted in downtime or slow access to many websites and applications on the internet.
Users have reported problems signing in, not only with Amazon products – Amazon.com, Prime Video, Alexa AI, and Kindle – but also Netflix, Venmo, Disney+, Ring, Roku, Duolingo, Chime , Fidelity Investments and NPR’s own news apps.
