Brendan Fraser receives standing ovation for his return role in ‘The Whale’: NPR

Actor Brendan Fraser received a six-minute standing ovation Sunday night at the Venice Film Festival, after returning to the profession after personal struggles.
Fraser attended the world premiere of Whale, a movie in which he stars as Charlie, an English teacher reconnecting with his teenage daughter..
Fraser was about to leave the stage when the audience and those on stage with him started a round of applause. He seemed to have shed tears at the answer.
Fraser has had groundbreaking roles in George of the jungle (1997) and Mummies (1999). He continues to star in sequels The mummy is back (2001) and Egyptian Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon King (2008).
The Mummies movies took a toll on him physically, and he had to undergo multiple surgeries as a result of the stunt work he did for the franchise. He underwent a laminectomy (a procedure to remove vertebrae from the spine), partial knee replacement and vocal cord repair, he told GQ in 2018.
Fraser also said he wondered if he had been blacklisted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which hosts the Golden Globes, after he alleged that a former HFPA snooped on him in 2003. are not.
When the video of the standing ovation circulated, Fraser received a lot of support online.

“I wish he was *bathed* with compliments, and I have a feeling he won’t take it for granted right away,” another tweeter said. “Welcome back Brendan Fraser. We miss you so much.”
“He deserves all the love in the world. He’s had a super unfair shakeup in Hollywood, but now (hopefully) comes along and he’ll hit his term.” said one user.
Fraser has several upcoming roles, including one alongside Glenn Close and Peter Dinklage in Brothers; inside Martin Scorsese directed by The killer of the moon (2023) with Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio; and Behind the curtain of night, according to IMDB.
