Persons 18 years of age or older who have been deemed fully immunized may soon be eligible for a booster dose of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. The Food and Drug Administration is expected to announce later this week that it will issue an Emergency Use Authorization to all adults injecting Pfizer booster shots.
In September, Pfizer was allowed to give booster shots to anyone 65 or older. It also authorizes people 18 years of age or older who have reason to believe they are at risk for serious illness, either because of their job or because of certain health conditions.
Earlier this month, Pfizer indicated that it was looking to expand that authorization to everyone 18 years of age and older, based on data from a clinical trial showing that booster vaccines improved efficacy. vaccine outcomes for all adults. The FDA seems convinced by the company’s data that a booster should be valid for all adults.
