A military expert Ivan Kiričevski from Defense Express said about the characteristics of By Vulcano High-precision artillery shells, able to destroy intruders at a distance of over 80 km (modified Vulcano 127 GLR). Some sources cite a maximum effective range of up to 100 km. This value, however, is not confirmed by the manufacturer.
According to the manufacturer’s specifications, this weapon belongs to the BER – Ballistic Extended Range and guided (GLR – Guided Long Range) projectiles for 76mm, 127mm naval guns and surface artillery systems. 155mm soil. Experts commented that the Vulcano . extended range modifications use push fee – gas generator or mini jet engine – to achieve exceptional long range.

Vulcano ammunition is specifically designed to improve the performance of conventional ammunition of the same caliber, both in terms of range and accuracy. Compatibility with existing 127mm guns is one of the main advantages. From the outside, this type of ammunition looks almost similar to normal ammunition.
These unique ammo can be used against stationary and moving ‘point’ targets. The probability of collateral damage is greatly reduced. The case uses GPS-based guidance and supports orbital shaping. The maximum possible deviation from the target is less than 5m in all operating ranges.
The shell is filled with the so-called insensitive explosives Protect ring from accident during transportation and handling. The detonator is generated by a radio frequency (RF) programmable fuse capable of performing a variety of functions, including altimeter, instantaneous and delayed action. The RF fuse can also be replaced with a dedicated fuse homing terminal Sensor. In this case, the active guidance system is activated only just before the weapon hits its target.

Interestingly, the projectile can be programmed for a final angle of attack of up to 90°, which essentially means falling vertically. In this way, the enemy defenses’ ability to detect bullets will be reduced.
Follow recent statement of the Federal Government of Germany, the country intends to deliver 225 units of Vulcano ammunition to Ukraine. This expert also mentioned that there are only about 2,000 rounds of this type in the world.
“The ammo was successfully tested with the French CAESAR Self-propelled artillery and German troops Panzerhaubitze 2000. “Obviously, such weapons will be used to destroy small enemy targets such as command posts,” suggested Kirichevski.
This expert added, after the US-made MLRS HIMARS systems proved their effectiveness on the battlefield, the Russians began to reduce their ammunition stockpiles. He is sure that from now on, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will hit targets of this type with Vulcano shells.
