By Michael Lund Petersen Adare Manor just embarked on a special 12-day weight loss tour for girls, returning in another spectacular show at Las Virgenes Stakes (G3) on February 6 for $196,000 at Santa Anita . Park.
3 year old daughter of Uncle Mo was bet down when the overwhelming 2-5 favorite in a field dropped to just four points after a 1st place win by Bob Baffert-trained stablemate Adare Manor Eda .
Adare Manor dashes out of the gate but is defeated by ‘s initial command Gracelund Grey , who has a half-length advantage over cadet Baffert after a quarter-mile opening at: 22.72. Crossing the half-mile at: 46.66, runner John Velazquez dropped his arm on Adare Manor and the stout giant reached out with long, powerful strides, opening four lengths on the field around the home leg. . In lane, Adare Manor glided to the rope with no challenger in sight, crossing the rope as the 13-point winner.
“Bob told me when (Adare Manor) broke her maiden that this is what she wants to do, let’s go two passes,” Velazquez said after the race. “When we got to the half-mile mark, I put my hand on her and she just kept going. I just let her go to her own pace and apparently she showed up again today.”
Wrapped in Velazquez, Adare Manor stops the timer at 1:37.11 for the mile on the fast main track.
“She cloned her last race, you know, she had a big, long stride on her,” Baffert said. “I sprinted for her twice and I thought she was going to win each of those times and then I thought, she wants to go long… She’s like an amazon, she has (way) move) big and strong she has that big frame but she’s fast healthy. I’ve given her a run twice already, I don’t want to go back too quickly with her.”
Queen of Thorns is a distant second, in front of you Miss everything in part three. The winner paid $2.80.
Adare Manor improved her record to 2-1-0 from four starts and boosted her earnings to $176,600 with her Las Virgenes win. Las Virgenes values points on a 10-4-2-1 scale as a Road to the Kentucky Oaks prep race; however, Adare Manor received no points due to Bob Baffert’s two-year suspension from Churchill Downs.
Velazquez said: “(Adare Manor is) stepping from race to race and she did it wonderfully today. “I’ve looked back a few times (over a long period of time) and thought that ‘they’re pretty far out there, I’d better save something here.'”
Agent Donato Lanni purchased Adare Manor on behalf of Petersen at the Ocala Equestrian Sales in June 2021 and Racing Age Horses for $375,000 from Julie Davies consignment. The film previously sold for $180,000 to Walmac Farms/Gary Broad when offered by Taylor Made’s Sales Agency for the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed Sale of 2020.
Raised in Kentucky by Town & Country Horse Farms and Gary Broad, she was the first of the classified horses to win the bet. Giant gizmo mare Brooklynsway who also has a longing longing for Into Mischief and bred with Ghostzapper for the year 2022.
