Acura ZDX SUV will be brand’s first full EV – developed with GM, ready in 2024, Type S performance variant


Acura has announced that its first all-electric model will be named the Acura ZDX. The SUV will hit the market in 2024 and there will even be one Performance variant of type, “represents Acura’s commitment to performance in the era of electrification”. Type S Badge has Strong history in America.

ZDX is being co-developed with General Motors, using GM’s versatile global Ultium battery-powered EV platform. In April 2020, Honda and GM announce electric vehicle partnership where the Detroit automaker will work with Honda to develop two new EVs for the Japanese company, which will go on sale in North America in 2024. GM will also manufacture these vehicles.

Honda then said it would provide input to ensure that the platform used for the two new EVs is designed to support the brand’s driving personality. Exterior and interior design will also be done by Honda to match the rest of the lineup.

This is only a temporary measure. Acura says that it will roll out additional EV models starting in 2026 based on the company’s own global e:Architecture.

If the name sounds familiar, it has been used by Acura before, on a weird looking crossover produced between 2009 and 2013. That giant hatchback with a sloping roofline was the first to be styled from scratch in the Acura Design Studio, which opened in Los Angeles in 2007.
