Acura races into anime with web series ‘Chiaki’s Journey’

For the twelfth consecutive year, Acura is the showcase sponsor and official vehicle of the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Acura created a four-part anime series called Chiaki’s Journeys combines the medium Sundance celebration, the Japanese cartoon, the automaker’s fuller Type-S lineup, and the new Acura Integra sedan. However, unlike most films at the festival, Chiaki’s Journey ran a total of four minutes and 12 seconds, each episode lasting just over a minute.

The story revolves around Chiaki, a young Japanese woman from a family of racers, who knows how to hustle around the track, but has a temper that goes faster than her classic Integra. The villain is Erich Kang, a rich but equally arrogant man in every video game and car movie, driving an indescribably blue hot stick. He’s clearly someone everyone wants to beat, and he knows he is. When Chiaki got behind the wheel to briefly teach Kang a lesson, her uncle Noboru stepped in to teach her the lessons she needed to win.

Condensed as it is, each episode is like a trailer for a longer episode. However, Acura managed to fit all cars: 2022 MDX Type S, NSX Type S, TLX Type S and 2023 Integrated. The car brand also has a mandatory Japanese rock anime intro, thanks to All-girl metal band NEMOPHILA performed the song “Raitei.” You can watch the first episode above and the rest at Acura’s dedicated Type S site.
