At the same time, a trip to Italy is very expensive. Airfares to Italian cities from the US typically cost between $900 and $1,000. Such expensive ticket prices can make visiting this country a far cry.

When booking flights, we recommend using Google Flights to determine your availability, then purchase tickets directly from the airline’s website. Airlines are more reliable in case of cancellation, postponement or change of booking when you buy tickets directly.
Google Flights also tends to show different prices than the airline websites due to third-party booking options.
For a round-trip flight between February 6 and February 13 to Milan from San Francisco, Google Flights displays a range of options, all at pretty similar prices. The cheapest possible flights are Delta and KLM, which cost $539.
The Delta flight departed San Francisco at 7:55 a.m. on February 6 and arrived in Milan at 9:30 a.m. the next day. There’s also a 3-hour and 23-minute layover at New York City’s JFK.
When returning to San Francisco, Google Flights offers a variety of options. There are three flights departing at 11:45 am or 1 pm and all are at the same price, so the decision is up to preference.
The prices in this deal apply to economy fares only. For the Delta to Milan flight, the $539 fare is in the airline’s basic economy class; This ticket does not allow seat selection or the ability to change your flight after you have booked.
You can upgrade to Delta’s “Main Cabin” for an extra $150 to get these extra perks. The Main Cabin option also lets you check in your first luggage for free, while the basic economy class includes an additional fee for baggage check.

Since airlines have already reduced fares for many Italian cities, the deal is definitely worth it. Since these prices will only last for a day or two, now is the time to plan your next trip to Italy. Perhaps you could tour the Colosseum or traverse the Tuscan countryside, sipping wine along the way.
Note that these deals are for economy fares and some have multiple stops, so keep that in mind. A Delta flight from San Francisco to Milan that has a travel time of more than 18 hours and sits in a basic economy class seat may not be for every traveler.
However, it’s not always possible to fly to the major tourist destinations in Italy at such low prices, so act quickly before seats run out.
