A Simple Pear Galette is the end of the perfect dinner party

This year our pear tree was very productive and when all the pears ripened seemingly at the same time, we had to get creative. Pears in the lunch box. Canned pears like avocado. Pears in oatmeal. Pears halved and frozen solid. And pears for dessert in these pear parties. I am a huge fan of galettes! I like them because they’re simple – less than 10 ingredients and no special pans! – and IMO they are insanely delicious.

I’ve made quite a few gala recipes over the years but this is my favorite. The dough is perfectly smooth and most of the sweetness comes from the fruit. This combination is a not-so-sweet, rustic, and perfect fall dessert that’s perfect for a weekend family meal or dinner party. This recipe is adapted from Once Upon A Chef’s rustic apple tart recipe changed to our preferences and to make use of the ingredients we stock in our pantry. Improve, replace, change it as you like… galettes forgive!

Another thing that I love about prom dresses, they can be worn up or down. If you want a really nice gala dinner, use ripe pears that will keep their shape as you slice and then stack them in a pinwheel. Our pears have ripened and ripened together a lot. Similar to delicious and still beautiful, but less than perfect.
