A simple mint juice recipe worthy of the Kentucky Derby
There was once in my life when attending a derby was on my team roster. I used to go out to the nearest racetrack with my college friends to celebrate the occasion, which often coincides with the lovely first weekend of spring for us Northerners. Don’t get me wrong, seeing the race first-hand is STILL on my bucket list, but right now, in the season of life, it’s in short supply. However, am I planning to celebrate? Yes yes, I do. And this year, I discovered a recipe for the Official Kentucky Derby Drink. That’s right — a simple, delicious Mint Julep that uses Old Forester.
Old Forester Simple Mint Julep Recipe:
- 2 parts Old Forester 86 proof
- 0.75 servings of simple syrup
- 8-10 mint leaves (plus a sprig of mint for garnish)
- Grinded ice
Place mint leaves and simple syrup in your traditional julep cup and mix them together. Add the bourbon, fill the cup with shaved ice, and stir. Garnish with a sprig of mint. Interesting!
So put on your best derby hat, gather a few friends and get ready to celebrate this year’s Kentucky Derby on May 7.
