For MLB The Show 22, the team at San Diego Studio worked hard to innovate one of the core components and features of the in-game experience, a brand new commentary system, and a broadcast team with Jon “Boog” Sciambi and Chris Singleton for the first time in The Show history. Here’s a look behind the curtain:
- 128 separate recording sessions took place, including 350 hours of recording and approximately 45,000 audio streams. No wonder Boog and Singy clone themselves in the video with Coach!
- The commentary system has been redesigned for several key categories, including game intros, call home, post-play analytics, and more.
- A new conversation system has been implemented, allowing commentators to chat more naturally, seamlessly integrating into the live action of each match. Boog and Singy recorded a lot of their lines together to bring the feature to life.
- Audio stitching enhancements increase the variety of both call-by-play and color commentary, and improve player name integration. An enhanced dynamic range of play-by-play calls has also been implemented to match the excitement of each moment.
- Content gathered from both real-life MLB broadcasts and MLB The Show is known as commentary leading to a curated experience specifically for each player.
Jon “Boog” Sciambi and Chris Singleton have had stellar careers as MLB broadcasters, with over a decade of experience calling games together, and we’re excited to bring their talents to MLB The Show to create an even more immersive playing experience. How excited are you to be the new commentator team for MLB The Show 22?
Singy:”I can’t really express how excited I am to be part of the broadcast team for Sony Interactive Entertainment’s MLB The Show! Sony is a legendary brand and in my opinion baseball is still America’s favorite pastime. Being featured on one of the world’s top video games is something that my family and I will always reflect on with great joy. ”
Boog: “Working on MLB The Show 22 was an absolute thrill and certainly one of the most exciting and unique things I’ve done in my career. Working with Singy made it even more special because I was able to share the experience with a friend. ”
What was it like working with San Diego Studio to bring your voice into the game?
Boog: “The San Diego Studio team was truly dedicated and had incredible attention to detail; those people made it so enjoyable and are a huge part of why the process is both successful and enjoyable. ”
Singy:”Working with San Diego Studio over the past few years has truly been one of the most memorable experiences of my career. This is not an easy job for any of us but we have all become a family and enjoy this dish together. The entire team loves the sport of baseball so much that sometimes our tapings feature passionate “offline” discussions/debates about the sport that consumes us. ”
