Leapmotor, a Chinese manufacturer that owns part of Jeep And Fiat cars parent company Stellantis is set to launch its first model in Australia after gaining official approval for local sale.
Called the C10, Leapmotor’s first vehicle in Australia will be a five-seat electric SUV to compete with the Tesla Model Y car.
Stellantis Australia said Car expert that the C10 will be available in dealerships this November.
The mid-size C10 is confirmed to produce 160kW in Australia, 10kW less than its domestic Chinese output.
The car is 4.7 metres long, 1.9 metres high and 1.7 metres wide, with an unladen weight of 1,995 kg.

The model approved for sale comes with front and rear disc brakes as standard, and the option of 18- or 20-inch alloy wheels. The car uses Macpherson front suspension with a multi-link rear suspension.
Braked towing capacity is quoted at 1500kg.
While we don’t have any further details on domestic specs at this point, overseas specs have teased what the C10 could offer.
In China, the C10 is claimed to have a range of 410km or 530km on the easy CLTC test cycle with a 52.9kWh or 69.9kWh LFP battery pack.
Models for the Chinese market are equipped with a rear-mounted electric motor, capable of accelerating the C10 from 0-100km/h in 7.3 seconds.
Prices range from 128,800 to 168,800 yuan in Leapmotor’s home market, which equates to around $27,000 to $35,000, but prices here are likely to be higher due to import costs.
Leapmotor International is a joint venture between the Dutch group Stellantis, which holds 51% of the shares, and the Leapmotor branch in China, which holds the remaining 49%.
In addition to the C10, Leapmotor also plans to bring the T03 city car to Australia as part of its international expansion strategy.
